Things to Do

Since we have so many guests graciously travelling from various parts of the world, we wanted to put together a list of some of our favourite places to do/things to see while you're in Ottawa! If you need any more recommendations for food, activities, etc., please let us know.

Tomo - 109 Clarence Street, Ottawa ON

This is our favourite spot for a casual dinner! Tomo is mainly Japanese but serves a variety of Asian foods - we love their fried rice, sushi, and pad thai.

It's also located on what's considered to be the most exciting street in Downtown Ottawa.

Parliament Hill - Wellington Street, Ottawa ON

Lots of people travel to Ottawa just to see the Parliament Buildings. You are also able to go on a free 30 minute guided tour of the inside if you book through here!

YKO Chicken - 375 McArthur Avenue, Ottawa ON

This is actually where Nana took Amy for their first date! There is unfortunately no Ghanaian restaurants in Ottawa, but this Ivorian restaurant is on the same level. The line will always be very long if you go in person and with limited seating, so we recommend ordering on Uber Eats or calling ahead for pickup. The jollof rice and BBQ grilled chicken is out of this world.

Tanger Outlets - 8555 Campeau Drive, Ottawa ON

If you are looking to go shopping and get the best deals, Tanger Outlets is the place to go! They have so many stores - Nike, Coach, Adidas, Under Armour, etc. that are discounted up to 80% off everything.

Museum of Nature - 240 McLeod Street, Ottawa ON

This is a must-see for most people who visit Ottawa. This museum is HUGE and you can easily spend a whole day in there! Tickets are $18 and can be purchased here.

MED Supper Club - 225 Marché Way, Ottawa ON

There is no debate (to us, anyways) which restaurant is the nicest in Ottawa. MED Supper Club opened last year with a goal to take diners on a "Mediterranean escape". Although expensive, it's absolutely worth it for the experience. Nana loves the lamb chops and Amy says the MED ravioli is the best in the world.

National Gallery of Canada, 380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa ON

The Art Gallery is definitely worth checking out while you're in town. It's free every Thursday from 5PM to 8PM, or costs $20/adult any other time. You can purchase tickets here.

Getting around

Lots of areas of Ottawa are quite walkable. For travelling farther distances, we recommend OC Transpo/O Train as the most affordable option ($4) or taking an Uber, which is what most people in the city choose to do. Communauto is a very common car share/rental option as well, costing only around $30 a day.
